With the launch of two 100% online graduate programs by the Lebanese American University, online education for business professionals has never been more accessible.
The online Master of Science in Computer Science and MBA in Global Business Administration will have the same weight as their on-campus counterparts.
The Lebanese American University (LAU) has long been founded on the principles of innovation, expansion, and increased access to a high-quality university education. Now, with the Covid-19 pandemic accelerating the transition to digital educational delivery, the university recently launched two online graduate programs that will match the academic strengths of their on-campus equivalents.
The initiative to deliver online is an important step towards positioning the university in an increasingly competitive, globalized and digitized higher education sector. This is part of a larger strategic plan to expand LAU’s footprint beyond Lebanon and the region, as well as export its programs and expertise.
To take advantage of the benefits of a university education, students wishing to apply for these two new programs will no longer need to travel to campus to enroll, study or live the life of a full-time student.
Credible, recognized and high quality higher education:
According to Deputy Provost Barbar Akle, the University initiated these programs based on its New York charter and accreditation by the New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE). “Based on a report on our preparations for online education, the university received approval from NECHE to start “distance education”, while we were able to register both degrees at 100% online at the New York State Department of Education (NYSED), ” he explained.
LAU has been in a strong position to keep pace with technological advancements in recent years through its international faculty, institutional accreditation, and NYSED registration. The university created the innovative learning center long before it needed to migrate courses online during Covid-19, with the aim of promoting excellence in teaching, learning and assessment through high-impact technologies and pedagogies.
Additionally, the new online degrees are launched in collaboration with Wiley, a globally recognized higher education publisher and consultant.
“The center has played a major role in laying the groundwork for the start of online education and is currently working closely with Wiley Education Services to help our faculty develop strong online courses that offer knowledge equivalent to coursework. on campus to an international learner base,” said Dr Akle.
According to Faisal Abu-Khzam, Professor and Online Degree Coordinator, the online MS in Computer Science is project-based (rather than thesis-based), with more emphasis on coursework than research, and n does not include purely theoretical courses. “Its particularity is that it is aimed at students from a variety of IT backgrounds. Students are expected to have very little technical knowledge, but the learning outcomes are comparable to our most advanced courses,” he added.
Associate Professor and Coordinator Abdul-Nasser Kassar said: “The MBA in Global Business Administration, in addition to its flexibility and customizable electives, provides students with a deeper understanding of Eastern and Western business culture. They will not only be taught by research-motivated faculty with global experience, but they will also have the opportunity to interact with students and professionals from other countries and join our global network of alumni spread across the CCG, Europe and the Americas – an experience that has benefited our LAU graduates.
Both online programs meet the same standards, curricula, and course completion qualifications as those offered on campus. The degrees awarded at the end will be identical to the on-campus degrees, with no mention that they were obtained online, and the graduates will be allowed to walk at the start.
