Disney + Hotstar Malaysia no longer supports online banking for payment

Three months have passed since Disney + Hotstar debuts in Malaysia. For many, now is the time to decide whether to continue their subscription or otherwise given that the service runs on a 3 month subscription which costs RM 54.90.

If you’ve used the online banking option (also known as FPX) to pay for your initial Disney + Hotstar Malaysia membership, you might be surprised to find that the option is no longer available when you want to renew the service. It turns out that this option has been disabled by the service since August 17, 2021.

While Disney + Hotstar Malaysia did not provide a detailed explanation for the removal, its FAQ page stated that credit and debit cards “offer a possible payment experience” as well as support for auto-renewal. Besides credit and debit cards, the only other payment option supported by the service is direct billing from the App Store for iOS users.

As of yet, we have heard nothing from Disney regarding the possibility of having digital or physical gift cards for its streaming service in Malaysia, as in other markets such as India and the United States. Therefore, those who do not like the current payment options listed by the service are out of luck at this time.
