Fixed Santander online banking issue – customers can access accounts

UPDATE SUNDAY AM: Santander customers can finally access their accounts after a massive outage that saw thousands stranded from online banking and the smartphone app. The problem, which lasted most of Saturday, has now been fixed with Santander’s status page saying, “All of our banking services are now operating normally. We are so sorry for the inconvenience you encountered today. “

UPDATE AT 5:35 PM: Santander customers still cannot access key services tonight. Online banking and the app are still down, leaving many people with no way to verify their accounts or transfer money. Santander has just updated its status with the bank, saying: “We are sorry that a technical issue is still affecting our services.”

Along with customers expressing their anger, experts also said the outage was unacceptable with Gareth Shaw, head of Money at Which ?, stating: “These technical issues will cause stress for many Santander customers – with people reporting that they were unable to make online payments or, in some cases, purchase food from their local supermarket.

“Customers can incur fines, penalties and fees when they are unable to access their finances, so the bank must offer compensation to anyone who has been affected in this way.
