Outages are being reported across the country, with hot spots in London, Birmingham and Glasgow.

The construction company’s Twitter account said: “We appreciate that this fault has come at a horrible time for many people.”

He added that the company does not “currently have a deadline to resolve this issue.”

A Nationwide spokesperson said, “Unfortunately, there is currently a delay in outgoing payments reaching people’s accounts as well as incoming payments reaching Nationwide checking accounts.

“We are working hard to resolve the issue and apologize for any inconvenience caused. People do not need to resend payments and they will be processed ASAP.

“All other services are functioning normally, and members can continue to use their cards to pay for goods and services, access the Internet Bank and Banking App, and withdraw money from ATMs.”

As a result, other Nationwide users reported that they were unable to get their payrolls.
