NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk State University (NSU) is partnering with Academic Partnerships (AP) to expand its online education and technology programs.
“We are delighted to partner with Academic Partnerships on this important effort as we strive to provide better access to our academic programs for students and non-traditional professionals,” said the President of Norfolk State University, on Dr Javaune Adams-Gaston. “As we expand our academic offering, it is important to meet prospective graduate students where they are – and it is certainly online. “
NSU is poised to expand programs such as their Master of Arts degrees in Urban Education and Special Education, as well as their Master of Science degrees in Computer Science, Cyberpsychology, and Electronic Engineering.
The new programs include:
- Master of Science in Computer Science: Work with award-winning teachers to acquire the necessary skills,
experiences and problem-solving skills in cybersecurity, data science, software and game design and
network development and systems. After graduation, students can take on exciting and challenging roles in software engineering, cybersecurity, machine learning, data science, games and simulation, and more. - Master of Science in Electronic Engineering: With only a few similar programs in the United States, this degree
provides engineers with the technical skills to assist in chip design and development. Every digital device is powered by a chip, and recent reports have cited the national security implications of manufacturing most chips overseas. This program helps support efforts to bring more design and manufacturing capacity back to the United States. The program includes tracks in biomedical engineering, microelectronics and photonics. - Master of Science in CyberPsychology: This degree is a unique program in an emerging field. Cyberpsychology is the study of the interaction between people and the digital world. He examines the
implications of immersing people in a massive ecosystem of cellphones, games, laptops, social media,
virtual and augmented reality, and the interconnections of billions of people around the world. - Master of Arts in Urban Education: To improve the opportunity to reach our most under-represented
populations, this degree program provides the knowledge and skills necessary for educators to succeed in a
diverse urban school environment. This study program offers three main preparation concentrations,
Mathematics and English. - MA Specialized Education – General Program K-12: Offering an interdisciplinary approach, this program
offers working paraprofessionals the chance to grow as culturally sensitive educators and reach the top
teaching certificate. Graduates can become special education teachers or curriculum designers, early intervention specialists, etc.
NSU’s partner, Academic Partnerships (AP), works with more than 50 universities across the country to deliver online programs. NSU is the first HBCU that AP has partnered with.
