Online education is not a passing phase: Teresa Jacobs

Online education was not a passing phase but “the way forward,” Teresa Jacobs, executive director of the learning wing at the International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC), said at Techspectations Educate 2021, the fourth edition of Manoramaonline’s first digital summit, on Saturday.

She was speaking during a panel discussion on “Immersive Classroom: Experiences with AR/VR & New Age Technology”.

While some educators have argued that online classes are taking their toll on children despite the possibilities of augmented reality and virtual reality, Teresa had a word of assurance for them.

“On the one hand, we have overworked teachers in the online classroom doing hours of teaching and doing a little assessment, but on the other hand, there are more and more innovative solutions to solve the problems that the teachers even knew,” Teresa said.

She also said she was overwhelmed by the ingenuity with which human beings have adapted to the new normal. She said it’s high time teachers embraced immersive technology rather than becoming “just talking heads”.
